A traditional Italian Easter cake in the shape of a dove, sold in a box.

The counterpart of two well-known Italian Christmas desserts, panettone and pandoro; the dough for the colomba is made in a similar manner to panettone, with flour, eggs, sugar, natural yeast and butter but, unlike panettone, it usually contains candied peel and no raisins. The dough is then fashioned into a dove shape (colomba in Italian) and topped with pearl sugar and almonds before being baked.

Delicious olive oil from the south of Italy made from 100% majatica olives and unfiltered. 

Medium intensity, smooth with grassy flavours.  Well balanced with an after taste of artichokes and a slight memory of tomatoes.  It begs to be drizzled over toasted sourdough bread, mozzarella, salads and almost everything else too. Stunning.

Saponara's pizzas are legendary; crisp base, just the right amount of chewiness and - as you'd expect from The Independent's top ranked deli - knockout toppings. Now Marco has worked out a way for you to achieve the same results at home.

The pizza dough is left to rise overnight, then baked the following day in Saponara's pizza oven for just long enough to hold together in transit and impart that all-important stone baked flavour. It's then topped with a tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella and Italian oregano calabrese.

Serves 2-3 with salad.

To cook

1. Transfer the base to a baking tray and bake at 200°C in the oven for eight minutes.

2. You can either add your toppings and return the pizza to the oven for two more minutes, or bake the base for a further two minutes before adding the toppings and serve fresco-style. Either way, serve with a drizzle of good extra virgin olive oil and a twist of black pepper.
